RCA's stylish and remarkably affordable 32-inch 32V550T features a host of video-enhancing technologies alongside flexible input options, including an Xbox-ready VPORT component-video input. The CRT set uses an optimum-contrast picture tube offering adjustable color temperature, preferred picture presets with input memory (recalling last-used settings for each input), auto color balance (AKB), auto color control, and Dynamic BlackStretch circuitry for rendering deep, vivid blacks with your high-end Xbox, DVD, or satellite video inputs.
The 32V550T's three-line digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).
The set gives you stereo audio (with 5 watts per channel) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. The MTS decoder also offers Second Audio Programming (or SAP), an additional channel usually used for an alternate-language track.
The exclusive RCA VPORT is a unique terminal that simplifies the connection of Microsoft's acclaimed Xbox video-game console. This connection also functions as a second component-video input when used with an optional component-video-to-VPORT cable. A rear component-video input (Y Pr Pb) lets you connect a single device with Y Pr Pb outputs (such as a DVD player or satellite receiver). Component-video inputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts in interlaced video signals.
The 32V550T also features V-Chip and KidPass parental controls. V-Chip blocks channels and/or programs according to your settings, while KidPass gives you the ability to control the amount of time your children spend in front of a powered TV--without your having to be in the room. This feature allows predetermined viewing time (up to an insane but possible 16 hours per day) to be set in 30-minute increments, guarded with a password.
A trio of composite-video inputs and one S-video input accommodate a range of audio/video components, including DVD players, DVRs, VCRs, cable boxes, and camcorders (the set's front-panel input is especially handy for viewing camcorder footage). There's even an RF input to accommodate older VCRs, cable boxes, or an external aerial antenna.
The Energy Star-compliant set also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), Sound Logic audio leveling, auto channel setup, channel labeling, closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer and wake timer, and a universal remote control.
